Why LUCID?

At LUCID, we are passionate about next-generation AI technologies designed for the vague and uncertain world we live in. We develop techniques designed to handle (radical) uncertainty and offer not just human-accessible explanations, but lay the groundwork for practical human-AI interaction.

We are a diverse team in computer science working with colleagues from across disciplines. Areas we are particularly excited about include:

• the capture, representation, processing and communication (to various AI stakeholders) of uncertain data;

• different approaches to modelling information and reasoning, including rule-based, Bayesian, fuzzy and their combinations;

• decision science, understanding and mapping of human reasoning to AI and vice versa;

• machine learning for human-centric decision support, i.e., emphasising explainability, causality and comprehensive communication of outputs.
