Why LUCID?
At LUCID, we are passionate about next-generation AI technologies designed for the vague and uncertain world we live in. We develop techniques designed to handle (radical) uncertainty and offer not just human-accessible explanations, but lay the groundwork for practical human-AI interaction.
We are a diverse team in computer science working with colleagues from across disciplines. Areas we are particularly excited about include:
the capture, representation, processing and communication (to various AI stakeholders) of uncertain data;
different approaches to modelling information and reasoning, including rule-based, Bayesian, fuzzy and their combinations;
decision science, understanding and mapping of human reasoning to AI and vice versa;
machine learning for human-centric decision support, i.e., emphasising explainability, causality and comprehensive communication of outputs.
If you share our passion for advancing AI-driven decision support—get in touch via lucidresearchorg@gmail.com or christian.wagner@nottingham.ac.uk / LinkedIn
PhDs - we are regularly looking for innovative new PhD students to join the team at any time of the year. We also advertise funded PhD positions regularly, usually towards the end of the year. Keep an eye on our blog and social media.

These are full, permanent Assistant Professorships which benefit from a reduced teaching load to support individuals to develop their individual research career. Apply to these if you have a strong vision, some experience and initial publication track record but do not feel ready to apply for an Assistant Professorship.
